Upon receiving the third yellow card in a single season, a player is eligible for a deduction of one caution, reducing the count from three to two, provided they participate in five consecutive matches without receiving additional warnings or disciplinary measures. Currently, in the MLS regular season, the player has two more chances to qualify for the "Good Conduct Bonus." Should the player remain uncautioned and unpunished in the subsequent five games, their total yellow card tally would be trimmed by another one. At that point, the player would hold only one caution and have one final opportunity to earn the "Good Conduct Bonus."
Prior to the 2025 campaign, the National Women's Soccer League (NWSL) also adopted a comparable policy. This marks yet another instance where North American soccer is utilizing disciplinary incentives to foster ongoing exemplary conduct among players.
